The Scorch Trials

They thought they were safe, but they wake up to screaming cranks outside the windows and Thomas can’t contact Theresa via his mind. They are locked in. The common room is full of the hanging, dead bodies of their “rescuers”, Theresa is gone and replaced with a boy named Aris who doesn’t know how he got here but went through the exact same maze trials with a group of girls called Group B. Everyone has tattoos lalebling them WICKED property. No food. Hungry for 3 days. Rat looking guy shows up and says more trials await. Next morning they teleport via a flat trans to a tunnell pitch black underground. As they walk a couple kids die from silver balls that eat you. Find the exit, sun is scorching hot, UV like 50. They are in “The Scorch” the old part of earth near the equator that burned when the solar flares happened.
They start crossing the scorch, eventually come to a hut where Thomas finds Theresa, they kiss and she tells him to run. They run, a storm starts and lightning super strong kills some and Minho burnt. Get to abandoned city to sleep. 11 left. Wake up to Jorge, leader of a group of cranks. He talks to Thomas and wants the cure they have been promised (all the gladers have the flare apparently). Him and a teenage girl named Brenda come with team. They get food, but then an explosion separates Brenda and Thomas from everyone else. Instead of contacting Aris via telepathy Thomas run around in the dark hiding from Cranks with Brenda, who seems to like him a lot. Learn WICKED is a coalition of remaining world governments after the world fell apart when the flares hit. They get captured by some sane-ish cranks with a gun and taken to this weird dance party and forced to take drugs. Wake up tied down in a basement. Lots of signs around city saying “Thomas, you are the real leader” so these people want to know who he is. Deus ex minho. The gladers come and save Brenda and Thomas. While drugged thomas basically shut down Brenda and said Theresa was better. Gun guy someone is a ninja and shoots Thomas in the shoulder. They flee the city. Infection.
“Someone” (brenda) calls down WICKED to save Thomas, they didn’t think a gun would have been there so it doesn’t count. He overhears some more random information on top of the dreams he keeps having. Reunited with Gladers + Jorge and Brenda and Aris. Keep going to the north, where a “Safe Zone” waits and they will get the cure. Group of girls with weapons shows up and Theresa acts like she doesn’t know Thomas. Beats him, captures him.
Thomas befriends other girls and they realize Theresa is crazy. Even though WICKED said to kill him they aren’t going to. Theresa leaves. The next day Theresa tells thomas to follow her and he is stupid so he does by himself. Theresa and Aris capture and tell Thomas he will die, they kiss. He feels betrayed. They put him in a death chamber where he doesn’t die, Theresa apologizes she just did what she was told. Thomas obviously hates her now because she was awful and dumb. Both groups of kids find a pole in the ground marked safe zone. Suddenly crates holding griver-esque monsters show up. They fight, many die. A big plane called a berg shows up with more monsters, they barely manage to get on the plane.
A soldier threatens to kill either Brenda or Jorge because they aren’t supposed to be here. Thomas chooses Branda with some wicked reverse psychology. The dude goes to kill Brenda by throwing her out of the plane. Thomas tackles him and takes his gun, but then the dude apologizes so everything is fine I guess. Then they all choose to fall asleep on the plane instead of doing anything rational and Thomas wakes up in a padded cell alone with Theresa saying he has been gone for a week.
