Honestly better than I expected it to be. Not a ton of romance, but still a needless smut scene written in near the end. Obviously copies a lot from other books in this vein but not the worst writing ever. Still bad but better than expected.

Set in the world of Obidae, Oraya, a young human is found by Vincent the Vampire Hiaj King of the House of Night. He raises her in his castle, one of few humans around in a world of Vampires, in the city Sivrinaj. Oraya enters a once a century tournament, the Keraji, in order to share in Vincent’s power and be able to fit in in the world of vampires. Her only human friend, Ilana, is killed right at the start of the Keraji, which has 5 rounds named after moon phases (the goddess Nyaxia is big on the moon I guess). Oraya is injured in the first trial and forced to accept the help of fellow contestants Rhain and Mische. They are both friendly and different from the other vampires she has met before. They know they will have to team up for the next trial so they begin practicing together, and Rhain and Oraya develop a weird tension chemistry. Outside of this tournament, the Rishan vampires (another faction with feathered wings vs. Hiaj bat wings) begin to rebel since Vincent has been in control for al ong time (Rhain is Rishan). In this rebellion Mische gets wounded while Rhain and Oraya are off flirting, so she has to leave the tournament. Rhain and Oraya still win easily since apparently Oraya now is the most powerful magic user in history (she just cant control it well?) and continue to do well and fall in love, while Vincent is more distracted when meeting Oraya since he is actively fighting a war. Oraya and Rhain sleep together right before the final round where they know they will have to kill each other. They get to the final 2, Oraya kills him, then Nyaxia grants her wish of Rhain winning the tournament (which should mean she dies but I guess not), then he wishes to get his full bloodline heir mark powers back which Vincent had restrained when he won the Keraji 2 centuries ago. For some reason he is more powerful than vincent by a mile and easily kills him, but Oraya still loves her adopted father. Then when he dies she get the heir mark, meaning she is a half vamp and his real daughter. Rhain says he will force her to marry him and abuse her to get the other RIshan to not kill her. Oraya meets secretly with her fathers old general to plan how to fight back. Also there is this third group the House of Blood that does not matter at all.
