First 10 of the year. This was an awesome standalone novel. Dove into a ton of cool language roots, comparing how words in different languages are related but also unique and different, as well as exploring many racial injustices and colonial attitudes present in the 1800’s. The last quarter of the book also completely switched up and was way more action packed and shocking. All around a really interesting book that I am very glad I read. I was hesitant at first because it sounds very historical fiction-y and the intro worried me, but I got into it quickly and enjoyed it more and more once Robin got to school.
